Prior to the descent of the Holy Spirit, Jesus' disciples apparently focused primarily on Jesus' physical person and his personality. They were spiritual blind and did not discern the eternal spiritual dimension of neither Jesus' life nor their lives. When filled with the Holy Spirit and living the Paschal Mystery they experienced cleansing and destruction of error thinking, removal of sin and confusion and the death of the mind and works of the flesh [Galatians 5:17-21]. The Holy Spirit brought the in gathering and fuller manifestation of the virtues, the fruit of the Spirit and the spiritual powers of the living Christ thus enabling kingdom living [Galatians 5:22-23].
The presence, glory and freedom of the living Christ and the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit are God's eternal gifts available to all humankind. The living Christ nullifies sin and the Holy Spirit assures believers of abundant and eternal life, while living in our physical bodies. The Christ-centered and Holy Spirit-based unity, steadfast faith, prayerfulness and spiritual awakening which Jesus of Nazareth demonstrated to his disciples are still available and needed in the body of Christ today.
Believers can and must be empowered and guided by the Holy Spirit to have effective ministries. The Holy Spirit remains God’s way to bring the love, grace and truth of the Gospel of Christ to every language, race, religion, culture and nation. The Holy Spirit provides true awareness and intimacy with God and harmony with each other as fellow heirs with Jesus Christ in Spirit-based kingdom living [Luke 17:20-21, John 3:14-18].
Let us individually and collectively choose to be of one accord, so we can experience the same in filling and outpouring of the Holy Spirit, which the disciples experienced on that Day of Pentecost. Our world urgently needs the same Infilling and outpouring of the Holy Spirit with the associated signs of spiritual awakening, new language, new birth, new dreams, new visions, healing, wholeness and the fuller manifestations of the spiritual kingdom of God in our midst and within us [Luke 4:18-19, Acts 2:16-21]. Let us seek to be true witness of God's new way by living the Paschal Mystery through the guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
